It’s been building for months like a steam kettle ready to boil over. And on Tuesday, the water finally hit the stove.

Pittsburg, Texas-based Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. announced that it will cut approximately 600 of the 1,215 jobs at its El Dorado chicken processing facility as part of a plan to “improve efficiencies” company wide.

The plan calls for consolidating the tray-pack chicken portion of the El Dorado plant into six other case-ready facilities throughout the country, according to a news release from Pilgrim’s.
