Area council eyes expenditures
SMACKOVER – The Smackover School Board met recently to discuss changes in the district’s utility expenditures. According to Superintendent Darrell Porter, the district’s electric bills are down $9,000 from last year’s billing. Gas and heat bills have increased $1,900, as well as water expenditures, with the district’s fees seeing a rise of $5,000 due to several leaks at the Mount Holly facility. Diesel/fuel costs are also up $20,000 since last year.
The board accepted the resignations of Gary Wilson, Peter Maggio, Missie McDaniel and Cora Richardson as recommended by Porter. The board also voted unanimously to approve a $300 end-of-year bonus to all full-time, certified staff.
