Despite being covered from head to toe in greasy oil-field muck, a Smackover man on Saturday was unable to slip past authorities after allegedly stealing $4,000 worth of oil production equipment from a field in Ouachita County.

Alex Bethany, 26, of Smackover, is being held today in the Ouachita County Jail awaiting his first appearance in court.

Three area law enforcement agencies assisted in the case after Robert Thornton of Smackover reported that two oil field bails (oil field equipment) had been stolen from his well site near the Pine Hills Country Club...
