Come June 30, El Dorado will be without commercial air service for the first time since 1946.

Mayor Mike Dumas said Wednesday that he had received word from the U.S. Department of Transportation that Mesa Airlines will cease operations on that date.

Mesa announced plans in January to cancel its Essential Air Service routes, which include El Dorado. The airline initially extended its stay in El Dorado to about May 20 and then later agreed, according to the USDOT, that it would remain in El Dorado until a replacement was found.
