Because of his years of military service, a former Arkansas National Guardsman was given a sentencing break Wednesday on a federal charge of attempting to transfer obscene material to someone younger than 16.

U.S. District Judge Bill Wilson Jr. sentenced Dale W. Box of El Dorado to 14 months in prison, and imposed a $2,000 fine, in connection with Box’s Nov. 20, 2007, guilty plea to the felony charge.
