Employees at Pilgrim’s Pride’s El Dorado operations were told on Tuesday that their facilities are being considered for closure. This includes the processing plant on South West Avenue, the feed mill on Arkansas 7 and the hatchery inside the Union County Industrial Park — in all, more than 1,620 jobs could be permanently lost.

A company spokesman cited quality control issues, rising poultry feed prices and poor worker productivity as chief reasons.
