Tourism grew by six percent in 2007, which means more than 23.9 million travelers spent more than $5.3 billion in the state last year, according to an Arkansas’ South news release.

Those figures were released during the 2007-2008 annual report at the 34th annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism recently in Rogers.

Tourism is the second largest industry in the state and employs more than 59,700 people.

The annual report showed that Arkansas’ South total travel expenditures climbed four percent to $197,549,631, an increase of more than $7.5 million.
