The Union County Election Commission certified the results of an election held this week to increase the school millage rate in Norphlet. The results were certified on Thursday.

Norphlet School District voters approved a 5.0 mill increase on Tuesday, increasing the rate from 37.0 to 42.0, with a vote of 150 for, 85 against.

Revenues from the increase will be used to refund a March 2003 bond issue and a revolving loan from April 2002 and to help the Norphlet School District meet state-mandated building repairs and upg...
