Norphlet voters approve millage hike

News-Times Staff Norphlet voters elected to raise the town’s school millage rate on Tuesday in a 153 for, 85 against vote, according to Norphlet Superintendent Eddie Miller. The 5.0 mill increase will raise the current millage rate of 37.0 to 42.0 per year, giving the district the highest millage rate in Union County, followed by Smackover at a close second with 41.0 mills. The increase will be in effect until 2038 and will mean a $100 per year tax increase for those who own homes valued at $100,000, voters were told in a community meeting ...
