El Dorado man killed in accident

‘Miracle’ man survives truck wreck El Dorado firefighters battle a house fire at 918 Virginia. The homeowner wasn’t at home at the time, and no one was injured in the blaze. El Dorado firefighters responded to the fire about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The department had to run a hose from Mount Holly Road several blocks to the fire. El Dorado Police Department officers were forced to block Mount Holly Road because of the fire hoses.

Lawrence Mitchell, 62, of El Dorado, was killed Tuesday after his pickup truck barreled head-on into a tree on Seven Brothers Road, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Police suspect Mitchell may have fallen asleep.

The accident happened at 6:12 p.m. approximately 4/10 of a mile from Arkansas 7; Mitchell lived nearby at 503 Padgett St. in Norphlet, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
