Norphlet voters to vote on school millage rate hikeIncrease needed for mandated improvements to aging school facilities, administrators explain

News-Times Staff NORPHLET — On March 11, Norphlet voters will be asked to increase their school millage rate from 37.0 mills to 42.0 mills per year, giving the district the highest millage rate in Union County behind Smackover, which has a current rate of 41.0 mills. The proposed 5.0 debt mills increase — totaling more than $3.4 million — would mean $100 more in taxes per year if you own a $100,000 home.
