Area quilt guilds serve the community


Mrya Turnage, from left, Jo Ann Reaves, Mary Lou Doyle and Deanna Dison, of the Union County Quilt Guild, sort through a pile of fabric to be used to make quilts. Dison is the president, Reaves is the treasurer, Turnage is the assistant secretary and Doyle is the assistant to the president of the organization. The group makes quilts and then donates them to charitable organizations.

In the middle of the night, when the moon is low, a car silently pulls up outside Mary Lou Doyle’s house. The driver quietly opens the door, pulls out a large black garbage bag, drags it to Doyle’s doorstep and leaves it silently on her step, before driving away into the night, never knocking, never calling ahead to notify Doyle of the drop-off.
