Ruby Nell Smith, 72, of Huttig, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at St. Michael’s Christi Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born on July 1, 1936, in Camden, the daughter of Marvin and Nellie Rhodes Brown. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Huttig. She served as president of the Women’s Missionary Society, president of the Baptist Training Union, choir president and worked in the kitchen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Steven Louis Smith, Joyce Marie Smith York and Michael Redell Smith Sr.; and a brother, Luther Neal.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel Smith of Huttig; two daughters, Angela Diane Tensley of Huttig and Shirley Watley of Marion, La.; one brother, Jesse Rhodes of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Huttig with the Rev. Willie T. Ward officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Marion, La., under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.

The family will meet friends after the service in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church in Huttig.
