Mary Ellen Burton died Monday, June 2, 2008, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1929, in Sheridan, the daughter of Viva L. and Clieve Winkle. She married Thomas Hubert Burton. They made their home in El Dorado, where they owned and operated the Town House Restaurant, providing southern hospitality and delicious food for 30 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Regina Pierce of Bella Vista, Lisa Burton Tarver and her husband, Jon Tarver, of El Dorado, and Stephen Clark Burton and his wife, Benita Burton, also of El Dorado; four grandchildren, Stephen Clark Burton II and his wife, Alison, of El Dorado, Amanda Ellen Pierce of Saint Paul, Minn., Ross Eldon Burton and his wife, Kaci, of El Dorado, and Claire Holiman Tarver of El Dorado; and a great-grandson, Steven Clark “Tripp” Burton III. Survivors also include one aunt, Ima Wright of El Dorado; and one sister, Sue Fast of Ruston, La.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Danny Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
