GENE P. LOWE

Lowe
Gene Perdue Lowe, 89, formerly of El Dorado, passed away May 9, 2008, in Houston.

She was born Feb. 28, 1919, to Claude A. Perdue and Eunice Van Hook Perdue of the Junction City Highway in El Dorado, attended local area schools, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1936.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm C. Lowe (Mac), whom she met while they were both employed at the Ozark Ordnance Works in El Dorado. They were married on April 21, 1945.

Her husband was drafted into the U.S. Army and finished his military career as the commanding officer of a chemical warfare unit as a first lieutenant in Korea. In 1947 he returned to El Dorado where he was employed with Lion Oil Co. and subsequently Monsanto, where they began a series of moves that included Luling, La., New York and St. Louis, Mo. Following her husband’s retirement in 1975, they lived in Hazlehurst , Miss., prior to returning to El Dorado in 1986.

Gene had several passions of love in her life in addition to her devoted husband of 60 years. Among them were her love for flower gardening, cooking, music, and for her countless friends and family. The Lowes were active members of the First Baptist Church in both Hazlehurst and El Dorado. Rare were the occasions that you saw Gene without seeing Mac.

He preceded her in death on July 12, 2005, after which she moved to Houston, under the care of a nephew, Malcolm C. Perdue.

Survivors include her brother, J.M. Cotton Perdue of National City, Calif.; a cousin, Roy Perdue of El Dorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at Young’s Funeral Directors from 6 to 8 p.m. today for visitation. Services will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church, El Dorado, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, with Roy Perdue officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery on the Junction City Highway.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
