Etta Mae Thurmon, 86, of Spearsville, La., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, La., following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Lillie, La., she was the daughter of David C. and Fannie Dison Tucker. Mrs. Thurmon was an active member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church.

he retired as a seamstress from the Jack Winter Garment Co. in Junction City. Mrs. Thurmon enjoyed working with her many beautiful flowers and in the vegetable garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mattie Williams and Inice Murry; brothers, Warner Tucker and Earl ‘Cotton’ Tucker; a grandson, Stevie Overstreet; a great-grandson, Toby Wilson Jr.; and her husband, George C. Thurmon.

Survivors include sons, Leon Thurmon and wife Violet of Junction City, and Earl Thurmon and wife Patricia of Spearsville; daughters, Jean Williams of Bernice, La., and Esther Mullins and husband Donald of Farmerville, La.; brothers, Allen Tucker of Junction City, Marlon Tucker and Wayne Tucker, both of Spearsville; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Methvin, Rubin Weaver and Leroy Jones officiating. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
