Oil patch revived

There’s good news in South Arkansas’ economy. The oil patch has revived.

We wouldn’t call it a boom, exactly, but neither is it chopped liver. The latest activity in this region’s oil and gas fields means that for the time being, employment within the industry here is a full-time gig.

The Sunday News reported last week that through the first nine months of 2008, the number of new or renewed wells in Columbia, Ouachita and Union counties was 137, exceeding the total for 2007 by one. So, any new wells for the next three months are just gravy when compared with 2007.
