Hundreds of evacuees made their way to South Arkansas over the past week seeking refuge from Hurricane Gustav.

As our generous people have done many times in the past, residents of the area banded together to provide shelter and meet other needs of those temporarily displaced from their homes along the Gulf Coast.

Several churches, the Arkansas Welcome Center, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Barkingham Acres Kennel, law enforcement and other government offices and countless individuals did what they could to make life easier for those in need.
