Babe Ruth
Got room to spare?
The Union County Senior Babe Ruth League needs your help. League Director Cindy Woolsey told the El Dorado Rotary Club Monday that volunteers are being sought to provide host homes for players in the upcoming regional tournament, as well as volunteers to help man the tournament. The winning team from the regional tournament, set for July 18-22 at the El Dorado-Union County Recreation Complex, will represent the region in the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Newark, Ohio. Managers and coaches will stay in local hotels, as will the crowds of parents and others following tournament action. The tournament is expected to be a boon to the local economy. Eight teams will be playing with an average of 15 members per team. When you factor in a few coaches per team and all the parents and sports fans, several hundred people should be showing up in El Dorado for the tournament. “When Camden hosted the regional tournament two years ago, according to their A&P Commission, for six days of baseball, (local businesses generated) $250,000,” Woolsey told Rotarians. How’s that for welcome news? If you’ve got room for players or time to volunteer, please contact Woolsey at (870) 862-1244. Or if you’re just a sports fan and want to support the event by showing up, tickets are $15. Help out if you can. |
