LESLIE M. GORMAN
Leslie Michael “Mike” Gorman, 65, of Norphlet, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 23, 1943, in Bradley County, the son of Leslie Malcolm and Johnnie Bell Johnson Gorman, he was a beloved employee of Cook’s Body Shop until his illness. He enjoyed going to classic car shows and swap meets, and loved the fellowship of the many friends he met there through the years. His most cherished times were the many cookouts with his family. He had a special relationship with each and every one of his children and grandchildren. They will all miss their “Dad” and “Papaw Mike.” A 1961 graduate of Norphlet High School, he still had a close relationship with many of his classmates. He was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Smackover. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Gloria Mott of El Dorado. Left to cherish his memory are his precious wife of 20 years, Betty; one son, Scotty Gorman (Sonja) of Three Creeks; two daughters, Cindy Dees (Curt) of Norphlet and Brandi Chilton (Steven) of Beulaville, N.C.; one step-son, Robert Lassiter (Joyce) of El Dorado; two step-daughters, Michelle Barker (Dean) of El Dorado and Jana Dismuke (Bryan) of Searcy; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his beloved Pekingese, Butch. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, in Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Devin Bryant, Zack Bryant, Butch Cook, Jody Cook, Kyle Darden, Jonathan Dees, Brett Gorman and Justin Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Ray Cook, Sammy Payne, Dennis Cooper and Nick Underwood. Memorials may be made to Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.
