JOE T. MURPHY
Joe T. Murphy, 91, of Norphlet, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Medical Center of South Arkansas following a lengthy illness.
Born April 13, 1917, in Norphlet, he was the son of Willie Hugh and Maggie Sullivan Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a retired employee of MacMillian Refinery, having worked there 37 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army. He attended Lisbon United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his first wife, Bernice Murphy; brothers, Ira, Harry, Homer and Paul Murphy; and sisters, Mildred Anderson and Orean Murphy; and a stepson, Lewis D. Jones. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Lee Murphy of El Dorado, two stepsons, Henry Jones (Rachel) and Ronnie Shelby; stepdaughters, Delois Ruth Adams (George), Mary Crain (John), Maxine Galbraith, Brenda McElyea (Mark) and Debra Smith (Lemuel). Also surviving is one brother, Hardin Murphy of Scranton; and two sisters, Sallie Mae Munson (Layton) of Sedgwick, Colo., and Helen Bales (Charles) of Norphlet; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 5 p.m. today.
