Dorothy C. Sample, MD, age 85, died Friday, June 13, 2008.

She was born in El Dorado on June 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Lavelle and Belle Murphy Sample. She is a graduate of El Dorado High School, Louisiana Tech and the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences. She worked as a medical technician at Fincher Clinic and returned to UAMS to medical school, graduating at the top of her class with her MD degree in 1962.

She practiced dermatology in El Dorado until her retirement in 1988. She was a gentle, thorough and much loved physician.

She was a member of the American Medical Association, Arkansas Medical Society, Union County Medical Society, American Board of Dermatology, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the American Contract Bridge League.

Survivors include her sister, Bess Brooks of El Dorado; nieces and nephews Carolyn Coburn Tragesser of Orofino, Idaho, Susan Mercer of Santa Fe, N.M., James Robertson of Houston, Texas, Nick Guyol of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Debbie Guyol of Portland, Ore.; and many great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by six sisters: Fannie Belle Currie, Hazel Guyol, Mary Sipes, Louise Coburn, Polly White and Jacqueline Sample.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Young’s Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
