Earnest Swartz, 83, of Camden, died on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Mr. Swartz was born on June 8, 1924, in Lester, the son of William Alton and Mary Dunn Swartz.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Swartz of Forrestville, Calif.; and a sister, Josephine Nussey of Camden.

He was retired from Barrett Roofing after 14 years; he also held positions with the City of Camden Water Department, International Paper Co., and Camark Pottery. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy in the Southwest Pacific.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Adams Swartz, whom he married on Oct. 29, 1947, in Ruston, La. He is also survived by four children, a son, Wayne Swartz of Chidester, and his children, Robert Wayne, Adam and family; a daughter, Paula Jones and husband, Richard, of Huntsville, and their children, Jacob and Caleb; a daughter, Joanne Vaughan and husband, Dale, of East Camden, and their children, Krista and Matt; and a daughter, Hazel Bullock of Shreveport, La., and her son, Brandon; a sister, Emma Nussey Blackstock of Camden; and a brother, William Lloyd “Topsy” Swartz of Houston, Texas.

Funeral for Mr. Swartz will be at 10 a.m. on Monday in Proctor Chapel. Burial will be in Chidester Cemetery under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home in Camden.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Dale Vaughan, 222 Ingram, in East Camden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
