Marion “Mac” McElroy, 80, of El Dorado, died on Friday, May 30, 2008, in Irving, Texas, after a brief illness.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1927, to Robert McElroy and Jennie Ivey McElroy.

Mac served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Navy aboard the USS Duncan in the Korean War. He was a longtime business owner and resident of El Dorado and a past recipient of the El Dorado Civitan Club’s “Citizen of the Year” award.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank McElroy; and a sister, Stella DeLara.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Louise Speer McElroy; two sons, Randy McElroy and wife, Terri, of Sachse, Texas, and Ricky McElroy and wife, Karan, of North Richland Hills, Texas; and one granddaughter, Lindsey McElroy of Sachse.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Terri Bunnell officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Jacksonville under the directions of Young’s Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Eddy Collins, Kenneth Futrell, Robert Hicks, Oliver and Wayne Speer, and friend Bill Addington.

The family will be at Mrs. Louise McElroy’s home.
