MYRTLE A. HOGUEMyrtle Ann Nickels Hogue. Early Sunday morning on May 25, 2008, the Lord took our mother home. She is now with Jesus and her late husband of 41 years, the late Jeppie Neal Hogue, who preceded her in death in May 1986. The Lord allowed our mother to live 87 years. This was a happy and prosperous life. She will be missed by her children, brother and friends. Myrtle Ann Nickels Hogue was born on Jan. 12, 1921, on the family farm on the South Fork River near Mammoth Springs in Fulton County. She was the fourth child born to Walter Nickels and Isophine Kirby Hill Nickels. The Nickels and Hills were one of the first families to settle in Fulton County, Arkansas. Her late husband, Jeppie, was from Mount Holly, and Myrtle and Jeppie were married in Benton on Jan. 18, 1941. From this marriage she had two sons, Jerry Neal Hogue and Douglas Dean Hogue. In 1941 Jeppie enlisted in the United States Navy until the duration of the World War II. Myrtle and her late husband moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1941; living in San Diego until 1979. Mr. Hogue was a dietician, executive chief, and worked as a ship builder at National Steel and Myrtle worked for many years in the restaurant business. In 1979 Myrtle and Jeppie retired and moved back to Union County and built a home on the old Brasier homestead land in Marysville. After the passing of Jeppie, Myrtle worked for many years as a personal caregiver, helping the elderly and sick. She was loved by many people from the Marysville Community. She was a former member of the Marysville Methodist Church. During Myrtle’s lifetime the Lord called home as her sisters and three brothers; mother and father, Walter and Isophine Nickels, Otis Jack Nickels, Hubert James Nickels, Everett Woodrow Nickels, Pansy Marie Nickels Johnson and Hazel Pearl Nickels Sullivant. Survivors include two sons, Jerry N. Hogue and his wife, Kimberly, of Marysville Community, Douglas D. Hogue and wife, Pamela, of San Diego. Three grandchildren, Joseph Jeppie Neal Holland Middleton Hogue, Timothy Williams Butler Hogue of Maryville, Shannon Danielle Hogue Eriksson and her husband, Niclas, of San Diego, and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Marie Eriksson of San Diego; a step-grandson, Michael Dewitt Canaday of Batesville; a brother, Bartus Paul Nickels of Hermitage, Missouri; many nieces and nephews. Jerry and Kimberly would like to thank Life Touch Hospice, Dr. Matt Callaway; our special nurse who comforted mom during her brief illness, Bernice Meade, and Mrs. Annette who provided that loving touch of care and comfort. We would also like to thank our pastor, Brother Gary Riley and all the members of Lisbon United Methodist Church for their love and prayers during this difficult time and all our friends and neighbors who gave us support and love during this time of grief. The family would also like to thank Young’s Funeral Directors for the kindness and care they have given to the family during this time of our loss. At the request of our mother there will be no public viewing. The family will have a private viewing with a private graveside service at 2 p.m. on Monday. Myrtle Hogue will be taken back to the place she loved. Interment will be near the South Fork River in the family cemetery at Saddle, Fulton County, Arkansas. She will be at eternal rest with her family. Burial will be under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors in El Dorado.
