MONROE FERRELLLt. Col. Monroe Ferrell, U.S. Army (retired), 82, of Panama City, Fla., formerly of Bradley County, died on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at home.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Johnsville, the son of Fletcher M. Ferrell and Maude Belle Clanton Ferrell. He was raised by the late Cason E. Clanton and Emma Bell McClain Clanton. He received his education at Hampton School District, Henderson State University, Gulf Coast Junior College and West Florida University. He was a member of Forrest Park United Methodist Church. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Ray Ferrell; and a sister, Gracie Sturgin. Survivors include his wife, Joy Vining Ferrell; a brother, Allen Ferrell of Johnsville; a sister, Beatrice Davis of Poquoson, Va.; his stepmother, Edna Ferrell of Heber Springs; seven half-brothers, Harvey and Harry Ferrell, both of Shreveport, La., Hurley Ferrell of South Carolina, Herman and Jabe Ferrell, both of Oak Grove, La., Wylie Ferrell of Mobile, Ala., and Bernard Ferrell of Heber Springs; three half-sisters, Betty Smith of New Orleans, La., Jimmie Lou Ellerby of Oak Grove and Mary Kees of Heber Springs. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in Frazer’s Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with Flag Presentation by Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Forrest Park United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1401 W. 23rd St., Panama City, FL 32405. |
