DOROTHY CARAWAYDorothy Caraway, 94 of Magnolia, died on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Magnolia Healthcare.
She was born on Aug. 12, 1913, to Eunice Earl and Deli Ann (Walker) McKenzie. She was a member of Jackson Street Church of Christ, a former seamstress for Talbot’s Department Store and did alterations for many others in Columbia County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, O’Don Caraway; a daughter, Vern Benefield; three grandchildren, Suzanne Jacobsen, Debbie Patterson and Doug Dennis; two sisters, Travis Winn and Elsie McKenzie; and five brothers, Calvin, Melvin, Andrew, Albert and Gilmer McKenzie. She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Boyd and husband, Larry, of Magnolia, and Nancy Dennis of Houston, Texas; a son, Donnie Caraway of Hemphill, Texas; three brothers, Wayne McKenzie of Arp, Texas, Ed McKenzie of Farmerville, La., and Wessie McKenzie of Homer, La.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday in Lewis Chapel with David Lovejoy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia. Family visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Jackson Street Church of Christ or to the Gideon’s.
