Let me respectfully suggest that the mayor and the city council forego, or at least postpone, construction of the conference center and correspondingly repeal the one percent sales tax that was enacted to finance it.

With the economy tanking and lots of unemployment and foreclosures all over the place and gas prices at an all-time high, I’m sure lots of people will join me in appreciating some relief from the tax, at least until prosperity returns.
