JOHN A. COURTNEY

John Allen Courtney, 79, of Lockhart, Louisiana, passed from this life on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on Sept. 13, 1939, to the late Arnold and Cleo Hall Courtney.

Upon graduation from Junction City High School, John was drafted into the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Betty Carolyn Peppers, known to him as “Miss Babe”. They were happily married for 58 years.

John was a Service Manager for George Morgan Motors for several years, a Maintenance Supervisor at Olincraft, and retired from El Dorado Chemical after 18 years. He was a deacon at the Lockhart Church of Christ, a devoted Christian, husband, father, and proud grandfather.

One of his many passions was gardening. John had a green thumb and could grow a cabbage the size of a basketball. He loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or taking care of his faithful friend Shadow.

John is survived by his wife, Betty Carolyn, and four daughters, Michelle Courtney of Lockhart, Louisiana, Monica Welch (Bob) of The Woodlands, Texas, Melanie Helm (Jay) of El Dorado, and Dapheny Rimes of Lockhart, Louisiana, four grandchildren, Josh Welch (Lauren), Courtney Howard (Brandon), Caroline Welch, Clayton Helm, his only brother, Joe Courtney (Jodie) of El Dorado, and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family will be at the home of Carolyn Courtney, 266 Highway 558, Spearsville, Louisiana, and will receive friends at Young’s Funeral Directors Thursday, Sept. 27, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at the Lockhart Church of Christ in Lockhart, Louisiana. Interment will follow at the Olive Branch Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
