Nearly three dozen recreational vehicles will begin rolling into Downtown El Dorado today for the first-ever Airstreams on Main Street event to be held in Arkansas.

Main Street El Dorado is partnering with the Arkansas Razorback Airstream Club to host the event, which is part of a nationwide campaign to stage Main Street/urban camping events across the country to promote the Airstream lifestyle and to help stimulate economic development and vitality in small-town America.

The El Dorado event will last until Sunday, and MSE is inviting the public to tour the Airstreams and participate in activities that have been planned during the four-day period.

The RVs will be parked around the Union County Courthouse, with assistance from county officials and employees.

El Dorado city employees have spent the past week sprucing up downtown in preparation of Airstreams and MusicFest, which is set for Oct. 18 - 20.

With the slogan “Camping with a Cause,” air-streamers also use the Main Street events to give back to the community and to encourage social interaction among local residents and other air-streamers.

A chicken-spaghetti supper is planned for 5 until 7 p.m. today in the Mahony parking lot across from the courthouse on North Washington.

The cost is $10 per plate, and the proceeds will support Relay for Life of Union County.

Those who purchase a plate may dine on the Mahony parking lot or pick up carry-out plates from the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce, 111 W. Main.

Charley Crockett will perform for Thursday Night Live, a free live music event that will be held at 8 p.m. in the Griffin Restaurant on Locust.

On Friday, a “Flock Party” — a street dance named for the Flamingo logo of one of the Airstream groups that is expected to attend the event — is set for 7 p.m. Friday in the Mahony parking lot.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Luau/flamingo attire.

There will be food vendors and alcoholic beverages available for $5.

An open house is planned for 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday in which visitors will be invited to tour the Airstreams. The cost of admission is one or more canned goods, which will be donated to local food banks.

Those who tour the campers will be able to vote on their favorite Air Stream for the “People’s Choice Award.”

A Baggo tournament will begin at 4 p.m. The cost is $20 per team.

Rounding out the night will be a Pub Crawl, which costs $25 to enter.

The Baggo tournament and Pub Crawl will be held on the Mahony parking lot.

Bruce Butterfield, president of the MSE board of directors, said Airstreamers will spend $2 bills while in town, so local businesses will be able to track the economic impact of the event.
