PC tennis wins; Junction City, Barton post victories

El Dorado’s golf teams came away with a split against Sheridan Thursday at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club.

Shaun York earned medalist honors with a 77, as the Wildcats finished with a team score of 333 to top the Yellowjackets.

Baylor Blackburn and Brennan Jones each shot 85 with Preston Howard adding an 86 to round out El Dorado.

Aubrey Marx had a 103 for the Lady Wildcats, who had a team score of 316.

Gabrien Parker had a 106 and Emma Gaul finished with a 107 for El Dorado.

Sheridan’s Emma Hester earned medalist honors with a 78.

PC tennis teams cruise to victories

Parkers Chapel’s tennis teams recently competed in a tri-match against Prescott and Fordyce.

Michael Brotherton, Jordan Arrington and Heath Bates each posted wins in singles against Prescott, while Payne Williams and Thomas Hardy were victorious in their singles matches against Fordyce.

In doubles, Josh Arrington and Austin Looney claimed a 6-0 win against Fordyce.

In girls singles against Fordyce, the Lady Trojans got wins from Drue Thomas, T.K. Burson and Macie Wood.

In doubles, Kenlee McAuliffe and Ali Looney won their match 6-0 against Fordyce.

Junction City rolls to home victory

JUNCTION CITY - Jamal Johnson racked up 181 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, as Junction City knocked off Parkers Chapel 44-12 in junior high football Thursday night.

Johnson opened the scoring with a 10-yard run in the opening quarter. He also scored on a 13-yard run in the second quarter and a 51-yard run in the third period.

However, the Dragons also got big contributions from Decoreon Dubose and Tyler Spooner.

Dubose added 87 yards on 11 carries with four successful two-point conversion tries.

Spooner chipped in with 83 yards on six carries with 53 of those yards coming on a touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Spooner also scored on a 6-yard run in the final period.

Quincy Pitts scored on an eight-yard run that followed Johnson’s first touchdown that gave the Dragons a 16-0 lead after the opening period.

The Dragons (1-0-1) will host Strong on Thursday.

Barton gets past Camden Fairview

Barton’s eighth-grade football team won its second straight game Thursday, as the Wildkittens topped Camden Fairview 19-0.

Barton (2-1) opened the scoring with Kolin Parker tossing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Deandre Burns, and Omer Alshujaa’s extra point made it 7-0.

The Wildkittens led by the same score after the opening stanza, but they extended their lead in the second period thanks to Parker and Burns.

The duo collaborated on a 60-yard strike to make it 13-0.

Barton’s final touchdown came in the third quarter on a 30-yard run by Parker.

After falling in their opener to Magnolia, the Wildkittens scored their first win of the year with a 21-20 win over Pine Bluff with Justin Dumas throwing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dadrien Howard with 20 seconds left to tie the game before Alshujaa’s extra point won the game.

Barton will host Union Parish (La.) next Thursday at 6 p.m.

Barton’s eighth-grade ‘B’ team will return to action on Monday when they host Camden Fairview at 5:30 p.m.

The Wildkittens are 0-1-1 after playing Monticello to a scoreless tie last week.
