Two people were sent to the hospital Monday after one of them was stabbed several times, allegedly by a jealous ex-boyfriend, and the other sustained an abrasion after tackling the suspect, according to El Dorado police.

Officers responded just after 4 a.m. to a report of a stabbing in an apartment at Hillsboro Town House Apartments, 1600 Short E. Hillsboro.

Police said 32-year-old Dequan M. Harris, had been stabbed multiple times and sustained a wound to the back of the neck, two wounds to the right shoulder and one to the left shoulder.

Harris was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas for treatment.

Twenty-eight-year old Katrina McGhee, Harris’s girlfriend, was also transported to MCSA to be treated for an abrasion to the head.

McGhee reported ongoing harassment by her ex-boyfriend, against whom she had obtained a no-contact order.

Police had been called to the residence just over an hour earlier in reference to a criminal mischief report.

McGhee told officers then that the suspect had thrown a rock through her second-story, bedroom window and shattered it. She also said he punctured the tires on her vehicle.

At the time, the suspect was reportedly seen leaving the area on a bicycle.

She told officers he returned later and chucked a brick through the same window.

McGhee said she grew agitated and chased the suspect up a hillside on the south end of the apartment complex.

She said Harris grabbed her in an attempt to calm her, and when Harris turned his back to the suspect, the suspect stabbed him.

McGhee noted that the suspect has “been extremely jealous” of Harris, her new boyfriend.

The suspect then turned to flee, and Harris said she tried to hold him down to prevent him from running. A witness intervened and pulled the pair apart, and the suspect fled the scene, McGhee said.

Harris provided a similar account of the incident while speaking with police at MCSA. The witness told officers that suspect called McGhee profane and derogatory names.

Police said McGhee was bleeding from an abrasion to head, and McGhee said she believed her head struck the pavement when she tackled the suspect.

A police report did not indicate that either Harris or McGhee’s injuries were life-threatening.

On Aug. 6, McGhee told police that someone keyed her vehicle and slashed all four tires. Police said there were “deep key marks” on the hood, driver’s side doors, rear and front left quarter panel and headlight.

The word “LIAR” had also been scratched into the front driver’s side door, police said.

McGhee also said the temporary license plate had also been stolen.

She said someone had tampered with the vehicle the previous night.

McGhee named the same person as a possible suspect in all of the events.
