JOSEPH E. DEWS

Joseph Earl Dews, Sr., 84, passed into Glory on Tuesday night October 16, 2018, at the home he shared with his wife of 65 years, Bettie.

Joe began his career with Trans Texas Airways at age 19 and continued as they became Texas International, Continental, and finally United. Joe was an avid gardener, usually had the best garden in the county and always planted enough to share with the community. After his Lord, Joe loved his family more than anything and spent his life providing for them in every way. He loved the mountains, the seashore, his farm, and open land anywhere. He loved a good fire in the fireplace and snow on the ground, and he loved his birthday and Christmas, occasions when he was surrounded by those he cherished. He loved his grandchildren, and he especially loved his great-grandchildren. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church and served faithfully his entire life, always setting the Christian example for his family to follow and for all to see.

Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, Julius Beverly and Mary Miller Dews; two brothers, Larry and Jack Dews; and two sisters, Lorene Watson and Lavonne Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Loe Dews; four sons, Joe, Jr. (Mary) of Abilene, TX, John (Beverly) of Hot Springs, Jim (Valerie) of El Dorado, Gary (Lisa) of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristi Rundel-Nutt (Shawn), Ashlea Dews, Shane Dews and Scott Dews (Tiffany); and four great grandchildren, Liann Rundel, JJ Rundel, Gavin Dews and Jackson Dews.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Young’s.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018, in Young’s Chapel with Glen Neimeyr officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Holly Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
