Jo Ellen Griffin, 101, passed away Oct. 14, 2018 at Meadow Lake Skilled Nursing Facility in Tyler, Texas.

She was born March 8, 1917 in Ruston, Louisiana to Cobey Wilson Posey and Carrie Lucille Saunders Posey. She grew up in Ruston and graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1936 where she was a cheerleader and played on the tennis team.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Earl Griffin, whom she married September 11, 1936, son Bobby Joe Griffin and grandson Thomas Prestmann Olsen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Earl Griffin and Betty Cutrer Griffin of Houston, Texas, daughter, Mary Ann Griffin Olsen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and son Donald Wilson Griffin of Fulton (Yellow Creek), Arkansas.

She is the grandmother of 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Jo Ellen was a long time resident of El Dorado, Arkansas where she lovingly raised her family and served in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. She considered it a great honor to serve with her husband in the Dallas Temple for many years. She was greatly admired and loved by her family for her devotion to her church and dedication to her family. She spent 70 years doing genealogy research for her ancestors and has gathered thousands of names for her posterity to become acquainted with. She also served the community as PTA president and volunteer for the March of Dimes. Her sweet spirit and the love and support given to her children will be greatly missed.

Services for Josephine Ellen Posey Griffin are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in El Dorado, Arkansas. Visitation for friends will be held at 12:00 PM prior to the service.

Following the service interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in El Dorado, Arkansas under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers at West Shores Assisted Living in Hot Springs, AR and Meadow Lake Skilled Nursing Facility in Tyler, TX. We express our gratitude to Sharon Bradley of Hot Springs, AR and Carla McQueen of Tyler, TX for the love and care they gave Jo Ellen during her years in Hot Springs and Tyler.

Pallbearers: Richard Gregory Griffin, Darrick Earl Prestmann Olsen, Robert Edward Griffin, Montgomery Wilson Griffin, William Cobey Prestmann Olsen and Richard Owen Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers are Jo Ellen’s great grandsons.
