CHARLES G. WHITE JR.

Charles Goodwin “G” White Jr., age 77, of Camden, died Oct. 10, 2018, after a battle with cancer. G was born Oct. 29, 1940, to Getrude Ellison and Charles Goodwin White Sr.

He was a lifelong resident of Camden, an avid golfer who really enjoyed the camaraderie with his friends as much as the play.

He graduated from Camden High School in 1958 and attended the University of Oklahoma where he pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also finished one year of Law School after graduating college and met his wife of forty years, Anna Gruenig.

After college they returned to Camden and G helped his dad operate Reynolds White Sawmill. When the sawmill closed, he teamed up with W. A. Graves in the timber brokerage business. He finally founded Steel Deals, a steel distribution center. Selling that business in 2007, he couldn’t sit home, so he rented an office in the new Arkansas Pulpwood building and continued to work as a consultant and for the Dawsons until his illness caused him to stop.

Goodwin is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anne; a younger sister, Elizabeth and a favorite uncle, Luther Ellison.

He is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Jan; sons, Brad White (Mary) of Houston, Texas, Craig White (Leigh) of Dallas, Texas, step children, Brandon Byrd (Monica) and Catherine Gathwright (Chris) all of El Dorado; eight grandchildren, Allison and Ben White of Houston, Texas, Andrew and Vivian White of Dallas, Texas, Suzanna, Caroline, Lilly and Nora all of El Dorado and many cousins.

There is a visitation planned from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at St. John’s Episcopal Church with a private family hour following.

The family would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to all the many friends and family and people he never met for all the prayers and to Hospice for their caring and concern.

In lieu of flowers, Goodwin requested memorials may take the form of contributions to the donor’s favorite charity.
