Preston points to communication, leadership skills

Cliff Preston says he is choosing to run for Union County judge to give power back to the people.

A two-way race is set for the Union County judge position between Preston, a Republican, and incumbent County Judge, Mike Loftin, a Democrat, and will be decided in the Nov. 6 General Election.

Preston is currently a Union County Justice of the Peace, serving on the Union County Quorum Court representing District 10. He is also on the board of directors for the Smackover/Norphlet School District.

Preston said he believes his skill-set in communication and leading people will be beneficial if elected county judge.

Preston said the reason he chose to run for county judge was “about making sure the structure of county government is how it’s supposed to be and I believe the taxpayer has to be the key and first and represented well.”

Preston, age 36, is a Smackover resident and serves as an Evangelist. He and his wife, Leslie, have one daughter and one son.

The county judge is a full-time position, with a salary of about $69,000.
