BEARDEN - After a bye week, Junction City’s junior high football team made a rousing return to the gridiron Thursday night by topping Bearden 38-8.
Jamal Johnson had a monster game by racking up 254 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries for the Dragons, who improved their record to 4-0-1 with the win.
Junction City will complete its season next Thursday when they host Fordyce.
Johnson scored Junction City’s first points with an 8-yard run along with his run on the two-point conversion.
Decoreon Dubose, who added 58 yards on 10 carries, scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter.
The Dragons did all of their second-half scoring in the third period with Johnson scoring on touchdown runs of 20, 16 and 10 yards.
Dubose had successful two-point conversion tries on Johnson’s first two scores, while Johnson added his second two-point conversion to cap Junction City’s scoring.
BARTON SHUTS OUT MOUNTAIN HOME
LITTLE ROCK - Barton’s eighth-grade football team knocked off Mountain Home 32-0 Thursday in a game played at Little Rock Christian. The Wildkittens improved to 6-1 on the season.
Barton opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kolin Parker to Deandra Burns and led 6-0. Jon Brooks Elia connected with Burns for a 40-yard scoring toss in the second quarter.
Burns broke loose on an 85-yard touchdown run with Dadrien Howard running for the conversion and a 20-0 lead at the half.
Parker scored on a 5-yard run to push the lead to 26-0 going into the fourth.
On the final play of the game, Orlando Hampton returned an interception 90 yards for the touchdown.
The Wildkittens go to Pine Bluff on Tuesday.
