JUNCTION CITY - Brady Hutcheson threw for three scores and ran for another, as Junction City topped Bearden 40-0 in an 8-2A clash Friday night.
Hutcheson went 6-of-10 passing for 176 yards, connecting with Kevontae Haynes on scoring strikes of 13 and 36 yards.
A junior, Hutcheson also threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Hill in the third quarter.
Jakiron Cook and DeAndre Malone each had 57 yards rushing with the former also scoring a touchdown in the win.
It was Cook’s touchdown that opened the scoring with 8:39 left in the opening period, and the Dragons (4-2, 3-0) would hold that edge until scoring twice late in the first half.
With two minutes left in the second quarter, Hutcheson scored on a 1-yard run while also adding a successful run on the two-point conversion to make it 12-0.
After the Dragons’ defense forced a three-and-out, Hutcheson found Haynes on a 13-yard touchdown pass with Hutcheson running in his second straight two-point conversion to make it 20-0 at halftime.
Junction City then blew the game open in the third quarter with Hutcheson throwing his final two touchdown passes before Jamie Carroll scored on a 14-yard run with 2:41 left in the period to end the scoring in the game.
The Bears (2-4, 1-2) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.
Junction City will play at Fordyce next week in a showdown that will go a long way towards determining the 8-2A championship.
