Sonya Johnson was born July 29, 1960 in El Dorado to Vernon and Albertine Meeks. She was a member of Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Sonya attended El Dorado High School (Class of 1978) and was a former employee of Country Pride, Oak Ridge Nursing Home, Sonic Drive In, Northwest Avenue Laundry Mat and a volunteer with the Salvation Army.
Survivors are her mother, Albertine Meeks of El Dorado; her husband, Dennis Johnson, Sr. of El Dorado; son, Dennis Johnson, Jr. of El Dorado; daughter, Alesha M. Blueford of Atlanta, Georgia; step-daughter, Sharon Welch of Strong; grandson, Braylon Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; step-grandsons Michael Welch of Strong and Marquis Welch of Little Rock; brothers, Vernon A. Meeks, Jr., of Alexandria, Louisiana; Anthony J. Meeks of El Dorado and Marvin J. Meeks of Palm Bay, Florida; sisters, Joyce A. Meeks of Hampton, Virginia; Janet M. Meeks of Hampton, Virginia; Roberta Michelle Meeks of Atlanta, Georgia; and Sherecia Meeks Banks of El Dorado.
Public visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 and the family hour from 7 until 8 p.m. at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at New Olive Branch Baptist Church. Interment at Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
