Amy Machen to lead Corks and Canvas next week

South Arkansas Arts Center will welcome local acrylics artist Amy Machen as the instructor for this month’s Corks and Canvas night, which will be held Tuesday.

Machen, who works as the adult minister at First United Methodist Church and as mother to three kids and wife to Phillip, had not painted in 25 years, she said in an interview for her recent showing at SAAC, but has picked it back up in the last year and is thrilled to be painting again.

“I’m really excited about this month’s Corks and Canvas,” Machen said. “This is my first time to teach a Corks and Canvas class! We will paint a very simple manger scene that’s full of life, color and God’s love.”

The manger scene will be painted on an 11x14 inch canvas with acrylic paint.

Corks & Canvas is an art class for non-artists who have always wanted to paint. Each class is conducted by a different art instructor, who takes the class through the step-by-step process to complete a work of art in three hours. The $40 fee covers all supplies and snacks.

This class is limited to 12. Those taking the class should bring their favorite libation and be ready to have a good time.

For more information or to register for the class, call the SAAC office at 870-862-5474 or visit saac-arts.org. SAAC is located at 110 E. Fifth St., El Dorado.
