STRONG – Dynasty Davis picked up where she left off at the end of the 2017-18 season.

A junior, Davis poured in 44 points, 22 in each half, as Strong opened the 2018-19 season with a 57-44 win over Hamburg Tuesday.

Chrischunda Williams added seven points and eight blocks for the Lady Bulldogs, who play at Fordyce tonight.

In the junior girls game, Strong topped Hamburg 35-24.

Holly Baker had 22 points and Cameria Cole chipped in with eight points for Strong.

TROJANS FALL IN OPENER

PARKERS CHAPEL – It obviously wasn’t the end result he was looking for, but considering how little time he has had with his team, Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley could have the makings of a team that could make plenty of waves in 2A once the product is finished.

On Tuesday night, the Trojans opened the season with a 66-48 loss to Drew Central.

Zach Williams led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Trojans, who trailed 16-13 after the opening period before rallying to take a 27-24 lead at intermission.

However, the Pirates took the lead for good in the third period, taking a 47-31 lead before winning by the final margin.

“I thought we played really well considering we have only had a one hour practice,” Langley said. “I thought we played really well defensively until we wore down in the second half. You have to give a lot of credit to the way they shot the ball, especially in the second half.”

Isaac Evans had eight points, while Amari Bell and Evan Younger had seven points apiece.

Langley was also pleased with Zeante Nelson, who filled in at point guard, as well as reserves Tyler Killingsworth, J.T. Phelps and Trace Shoup.

“We got some good minutes off the bench,” Langley said. “We had nine different guys score, and that’s good to have production coming from a lot of different places.”

BULLDOGS WIN IN WATSON'S DEBUT

STRONG – Derrion Davis had a big night to lead Strong to a 65-59 victory over Hamburg Tuesday to give Champ Watson a victory in his debut as the Bulldogs' boys basketball coach.

A junior, Davis had a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds. He also had two assists.

Troy Rowland added 16 points for the Bulldogs, while Jamyron Thompson snared 10 rebounds with three points.
