The Junction City Council has given tentative approval for a request to use a portion of a city lot for a planned drive-thru for a new pharmacy.

According to notes from Junction City Mayor Allen Simmons that were provided to the News-Times, at the council meeting Thursday, “Mr. and Mrs. Boone Lucas” presented a request to use a portion of the city-owned parking lot next to the Generations Bank for a drive-thru for the pharmacy they are planning on building on an adjoining lot east of the parking lot. The council indicated unanimous support for the request, but asked the couple to bring a sketch of their plans to the Dec. 13 council meeting for final approval.

Simmons presented an ordinance concerning the parking of large commercial trucks in the lot and the council approved the emergency measure to go into effect after Dec. 31 to allow drivers time to make other parking arrangements.

In other business, the council approved repairs for one police vehicle and the purchase of new tires. The council also approved a new street light in the middle of the 300 block of North Elm Street and instructed the public works director to replace any missing street signs.

The council also voted to abolish the old Cemetery Committee and establish a new one, with Steve Williams and Ronnie Sehon appointed to the new committee. The council also instructed Simmons to contact local municipal attorney Henry Kinslow about an abandoned house at 401 N. Main St. to see what can be done to have the property addressed by the owners.

The council also was introduced to Michael O’Connell, the new director for the Barton Library.
