El Dorado man to be granted clemency

Gov. Asa Hutchinson has announced his intention to grant executive clemency to an El Dorado man who was convicted on felony burglary charges in 1991 and 1997.

According to a release from Hutchinson’s office, Joseph Ramey is one of 16 people Hutchinson intends to pardon, pending a 30-day waiting period to receive public feedback.

Ramey was convicted in 1991 and 1997 on felony burglary charges in Columbia County. Ramey has completed the terms of his sentence and has had no further felony criminal law violations, according to the release, which also noted that no law enforcement objections have been voiced to Ramey’s application for a pardon.

According to the release, an additional 32 clemency requests were denied and six had no action taken.
