Boomtown Opry gears up for June show

The Boomtown Opry is getting ready for its next El Dorado show to be held at 7 p.m. June 9 at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium.

Known as a Branson, Missouri-style variety show featuring live music, comedy, dancing and other family-friendly entertainment, the Boomtown Opry began presenting monthly shows in the area in May with a gospel music theme for the inaugural show.

For the June performance, the show will feature Gene King, Heather Ponce, Melissa Evans, Courtney Taylor, Terry Lyne Moore, Shinbone and Dance Connection. Gene King was the band leader for Grammy winner Jody Miller for many years and has two monthly shows of his own in Winnsboro and Ferriday Louisiana. Terry Lyne Moore, formerly from Smackover, is making her homecoming after opening for well-known artists such as BJ Thomas, Patty Loveless, Brooks & Dunn and others in the central Texas area.

The Boomtown Opry features a house band led by BJ Kyle, who has toured professionally with Colt Ford, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence, Kellie Pickler and others. Local actor/singer Steve Harrell is the MC and local country duo Southern Koast (Keith Owens and Susan Tolin) provide background vocals.

Any aspiring singers may audition for future shows before rehearsals on show day around 3 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door for only $10 each, with children ages 12 and under admitted free. The Boomtown Opry is a family-friendly event with no alcohol sold during the show.

The Boomtown Opry is partnering with the El Dorado Boys & Girls Club, with show proceeds benefiting the club. In return, the club provides volunteers to staff each show.
