Proclamation to honor the fallen to be read Friday
Union County Judge Mike Loftin will be reading a proclamation at 10 a.m. Friday at the Union County Courthouse to designate May 25 as National Poppy Day in honor of the fallen.
Norphlet City Hall to be closed for Memorial Day
The offices at Norphlet City Hall will be closed Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
Norphlet Water, Entergy and Centerpoint Energy payments can be put in the drop box in Mayor Jim Crotty’s office door. Normal hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
GLOW Run to be held June 2
The 2018 GLOW Run Family Walk benefiting Arkansas Children’s will be held on June 2, with festivities beginning at 7 p.m. and the walk starting at 9 p.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds, 19th Street and Quaker Avenue, El Dorado.
Costs are $35 individual, $35 virtual, $15 for ages 6-12, and ages 6 and under are free. To register on the day of the race is $45.

VFW Post 2413 Annual Memorial Day Ceremony to be held Monday
VFW Post 2413 Commander George Fennell would like to invite everyone to attend the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday on the east side of the Union County Courthouse.
El Dorado City Attorney Henry Kinslow will be the guest speaker. Following the program, the VFW will serve a light lunch at the post on Industrial Road. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
SouthArk library programs to be offered in June
The South Arkansas Community College Library has a spate of programs scheduled for the month of June. All events are free and open to the public.
A Facebook Page management workshop is at 6 p.m. June 7, a summer book sale is June 11-15 and a feral hog management workshop is at 6 p.m. June 12.
