Henry to return to City Council

Ward 3 residents opted for a familiar face Tuesday, voting for Tony Henry to return to the El Dorado City Council.

During the preferential primary election, Henry defeated challenger Andre Rucks 202 - 141 to take take the Ward 3, Position 2.

Henry, who recently retired from Clean Harbors as warehouse supervisor, previously served in the position from 2009 until 2016.

Earlier this year, incumbent Kensel Spivey, the first African-American woman to serve on the city council, announced that she will not seek re-election because she is moving to another ward.

Spivey has served on the council since 2017.

In the Democratic primary for the Ward 3, Position 2, El Dorado City Council race, 343 Ward 3 residents cast their ballots.

Henry led among early and absentee voters, grabbing four and 65 votes, respectively, compared to one and 46 for Rucks, according to unofficial election results provided by the Union County Election Commission.

Voting totals from Ward 3 were not available by press time Tuesday.

Henry said he would like to continue the work that was done by Spivey to improve Ward 3, explaining that he will focus on beautification, housing and business/economic development.

Henry will be sworn into office on Jan. 1, 2019.
