The South Arkansas Arts Center will hold early registration for auditions for this summer’s musical, “Singin’ in the Rain,” from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. Production dates for the musical are July 12-22.

Early registration is regarded as a time to get to know some of the production team, explore characters and get a head start on paperwork. Music director Charlsie Falcon will be on hand to answer questions and assist in selecting an audition piece. Early registration will give people the opportunity to get a headshot taken and brush up on the dance routine.

While early registration is not mandatory, those who cannot attend are asked to arrive early to regular auditions.

Based on the beloved 1952 film, “Singin’ in the Rain” features chorus girls, elocution lessons and lip-syncing being parodied in this send up of the Golden age of movie making. From the title song and dance number to “Moses Supposes” and “All I Do Is Dream of You,” “Singin’ in the Rain” will have viewers whistling a tune and looking for the umbrella. The musical includes some of the best-loved comedy routines, dance numbers and love songs ever written, including “Good Mornin’,” “Make ‘em Laugh,” and - of course - the show-stopping dance number, “Singin’ in the Rain.”

The directors are looking to fill roles for seven women, eight men, two boys, and an ensemble. The large ensemble of singers and dancers portrays a mass of adult roles, but can be filled by anyone age 14 and older. Everyone will be asked to read, sing and dance at auditions. The only exceptions are those wanting to be solely in the dance ensemble or a straight acting role.
