The El Dorado City Council reviewed a resolution concerning one resident’s setback line and an amendment to a city ordinance at its meeting Thursday.

The council voted on an amendment to the downtown parking ordinance that stated that the three hour limit on parking downtown would also apply to designated disabled parking spaces. The amendment passed unanimously and will go into effect immediately.

Also on the agenda was a resolution to adjust a city boundary on the south line of Deer Crossing Street. That area of El Dorado has a rule that buildings must be at least 10 feet from a street or road. Homeowner Ashlie Odom wrote the council this week, saying that her home is at least 10 feet from the road, but because of official records showing her in violation of the setback line, she has been unable to sell her home.

Appraiser and former council member Scott Ellen said the initial drawings of the subdivision planned for the cul-de-sac ending the road to be wider than it actually ended up being. Odom’s home is about 35 feet from the curb, but because of the initial drawings, the setback line seemed to touch the house.

“Basically, it was an honest mistake in the early drawings, and it never got corrected,” Ellen said.

The resolution altered the boundary to 10 feet between Deer Crossing Street and lot 20, the lot Odom’s home is on. The resolution was passed unanimously.

In other business, the Council approved the nomination of Diane Murfee to the El Dorado Historic District Commission.
