Fifth annual Mother's Day essay contest to be held by Meet Me at the Court

Meet Me at the Court is presenting its annual youth contest to select the “Mother of the Year” in El Dorado and Union County.

The group is accepting admissions for the fifth annual essay and poster/collage contest in which entrants describe or illustrate their mothers and detail why they feel their mothers deserve the “Mother of the Year” award.

The contest is open to Union County students in grades K – 12.

Students in K – 5 are asked to submit a poster or collage with drawings of pictures of their mothers.

Contest entrants’ names, ages and grades must be listed on the back of the poster or collage, said Veronica Bailey, founder and chief executive officer of Meet Me at the Court.

Sixth- – 12th-graders may submit an essay explaining why their mothers should be named “Mother of the Year.”

Essays must be typed or written in blue or black ink. Essays written pencil will not be accepted.

Essays must be at least 200 works, and the students’ names, ages and grades must appear in the top left corner of their essays.

The deadline to submit contest entries is 5 p.m. on May 9.

Winners will be announced during a Mother’s Day dinner, presented by Meet Me at the Court, at 2 p.m. on May 12 on the basketball court on Lester behind Arby’s Restaurant.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category.

The youngest and oldest mothers to attend the event will also be honored.

Dinner will be served by the youth members of Meet Me at the Court.
