El Dorado knocks off Parkers Chapel to advance at tourney

MAGNOLIA - After a week off, El Dorado went to back to work on Thursday, collecting wins over Taylor and Parkers Chapel to advance to the semifinals of the Magnolia Tournament.

The Wildcats used a five-run seventh to knock off the Tigers 7-0 in their opener.

Against the Trojans, the Wildcats scored eight runs in the first inning en route to an 11-1 win.

El Dorado (10-1) will take on Camden Fairview at 4:45 p.m. today in the semifinals.

Chase Webb delivered the big blow to get the Wildcats going against the Trojans (7-5), lacing a three-run double during their uprising in the first.

Webb finished 2-for-3 for the Wildcats.

Jared Rhodes drove in two runs, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk, while Bryan Lacy was 1-for-1 as a pinch-hitter.

Derek Jobe was the beneficiary of the early run support.

The junior allowed four hits and one run in four innings of work.

He walked three and struck out six.

Leighton Turbeville worked a scoreless fifth, striking out two while not allowing any hits or walks.

Reid Cates went 2-for-2, while Carson Worthey and Trace Shoup were each 1-for-3. Shoup drove in Parkers Chapel's lone run in the first.

T.J. Bale suffered the loss on the mound.

In the first game of the day, Zach Morgan made a 2-0 lead stand up until the Wildcats broke the game open in the seventh.

Noah Gaul, who was 3-for-3 with a walk, had an RBI single in the frame.

Micah Haney, who was 2-for-3 with two walks, ripped an RBI double. The senior had two RBIs in the win.

Brennan Smith added an RBI double of his own in the seventh.

Morgan was very efficient in going the distance against the Tigers, needing just 72 pitches to complete a two-hit shutout.

A senior, Morgan walked two and struck out two.

GREENLAND - Cade Schibler turned in a terrific performance on the mound, but the Hillbillies scored one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to overcome a 3-2 deficit at the Greenland Tournament.

The Bucks (3-9) scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead with Schibler driving in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly only to see Ozark rally.

Schibler went 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and four runs with only two runs being earned.

He struck out seven and walked four batters with two being intentional passes.

The Bucks were limited to only three hits with Josh Saulsbury collecting two hits while Tucker Evans went 1-for-4.

Smackover scored a run in the third to tie the game at 1-all before Ozark scored a run in the fifth to take a 2-1 edge.

Smackover continues pool play this afternoon.
